Writing for Theatre a training programme for aspiring Palestinian playwrights.
Organised by the British Council in partnership with the Royal Court Theatre in London and the A.M. Qattan Foundation in Palestine, the programme run from 2013 until 2025. It aimed to develop the writing techniques of playwrights, providing them with guidance and support throughout the process of creating their contemporary and original plays.
Since the project began in 2013, and building on Royal Court’s work in Palestine since 1988 led by the late Elyse Dodgson, former Head of the International Department at the Royal Court Theatre, a number of well-known British playwrights visited Palestine as part of the programme. Various cohorts of Palestinian playwrights across the years developed their original scripts through residential workshops with experienced playwrights and rehearsed readings with actors.
