We launched our Mishkal Talks series with a conversation about music production in Palestine, held right in the Old City of Ramallah.
The discussion brought together three Mishkal grantees:
- Zaid Hilal, musician and folklore researcher
- Majd Hajaj, co-founder and managing director of The Palestine Music Space
- Rola Daloul, singer from Gaza
It was a heartfelt and inspiring talk. Rola joined the session from one of the few remaining buildings in Gaza with internet access. She shared how her project Let’s Sing keeps hope alive for children through music: “When I lose hope,” she said, “the children always bring it back, they ask me to sing with them.”
Zaid spoke about how Palestine’s passionate audience keeps musical heritage alive.
Majd shared how creating and producing music is, in itself, a way to keep the Palestinian story going.
